The Money’s In the Data, Not the List
I’ve always believed the money’s in the list, until this morning. The elusive list was the mantra that Internet gurus spoke morning, noon and night. “The money’s in the list” they’d repeat… and people just like you and me would sit in awe at their 500,000 list of opt-in members and could only dream that one day we’d get there…
Many of us worked on the list, didn’t we. Many of us have a list.
But something changed this morning … and it’s brought something home to me.
I’ve always loved data, loved crunching those numbers - even when the number crunching was straightforward and simple, the fact is that data is information … data is information if it is the right data and the data is information and the data is in MY (or your) hands!
But where to get that data? What data?
It’s well been known that selling on eBay, for example, is the top selling organisation in the world. If you can get a product onto eBay and do well with it, then all you have to do is keep advertising and shipping your product.
So, the money’s in the data: but what data?
If I could give you a list of the top eBay sellers and how much they made in the past 12 months that would be information wouldn’t it. It’s data, but more importantly it’s information.
Armand Morin, a top Internet guru, has a mantra he repeats that stays with me “Success Leaves Traces”. This simple three-word phrase simply means that if you can find somebody who is successful, then you can look at what they are doing and how they are doing it - and simply copy it.
Get a Clear Instruction of: “Do This”
If I could give you a list of the top eBay sellers and how much they earned in the past 12 months, you could quite simply and easily visit their eBay shops and see for yourself: what are they selling? how are they selling it? what colours are they using? what words? what promises or guarantees do they make? what prices are they using? Then you could ask yourself ‘do I want to sell that?’ … and the minute the answer is “yes” you will know what you have to do.
Then, simply spend a few days tracking down good suppliers of those items at keen prices, use the tricks you copy from their listings and start to sell something that you are interested in that you KNOW is a good seller!
It’s the closest thing to being given a piece of paper and told “Do this” that you’ll ever get.
Great, so where can you get that list from? Well, I discovered it by accident this morning - and so have you now because you’re here. Get eBay Research Now

It cuts out all the guff. After all, there’s no point trying to copy and match the top eBay seller if their selling baby clothes and you’re interested in football, but maybe 12th down on the list you’ll find somebody making $100,000/year selling something you DO love!
And the beauty of this is that you could just use this information to pick h ot selling niches to create your own website or online shop, if it’s selling well on eBay then it could be ported to your own business!
