Selling Links on Your Website or Blog - Who Is Buying?
One of the growth phenomenons in the past 12-18 months has definitely been being able to sell links on your site easily. So here are a couple more ways to monetize your website or blog.
A growing number of companies are setting up and offering this service. Only over time will we be able to see who turn out to be the strongest companies. There isn’t, in my mind, yet, a clear leader. Every site is different, every ad network selling links works differently, prices are vairiable and what the advertisers are looking for will differ from day to day, month to month and year to year.
So, my advice is: bite the bullet and give them a whirl. Neither you nor I will know which will turn out to be lucrative for our particular site/page/ad slot. But, if you’ve got a spare slot, an underperforming ad space, then why not give it a whirl?
Here are the link selling sites I am currently using:
I must admit, when I first signed up, I was a bit confused by the options. Linkworth offer several styles of adverts you can sell on your site - with links being just one of them. So, stupidly, I closed the window and thought I’d be back another day … and didn’t get round to it for 3 months. On top of that (OK, here comes the confession), when I picked it up again and set off to investigate them, I realised I’d already missed several advert offers from advertisers! OH NOES!
So now I’ve set it up and I like what I see. For starters, I just kept it simple… I’ll just be offering links on one of my sites - quite a high traffic site, that has a good CTR. At the simple end of set up choices:
- You can set your own price, or pick one of theirs from the drop down menu.
- You can choose to have a link on only the home alone, site-wide, or on any/each individual page (which you price separately).
- You’ll spot they have a range of link and ad types available, including single word links that you slip into your content and sidebar links.
Now, there’s a lot more to it than that, but I just had 10 minutes to set it up and so I’ll revisit it in the future when I have a bit more time. There’s certainly a lot of options in there - and these options are money spinners I’m sure, but I like to go at things carefully, so I’ll delve deeper in once the initial results are positive.
I picked my top pages, picked some high prices *grins* and set it to go… Now, I don’t like to judge a campaign like this in a timeframe less than 6 months, so I’ll look at how it’s performed in a little while. In the meantime, if you’ve got a good or high traffic site, maybe a niche,
I suggest you hot foot it over to Linkworth because they look like they’ll end up being a top performing link selling company.
Text Link Ads
What makes Text Link Ads so different?
- All their ads are served as static html links designed to increase the natural search engine rankings by increasing the link popularity of the advertiser’s website - this makes them very popular with advertisers = large pool of hungry advertisers eager to buy a link on your website or blog.
- All advertisements are priced on a flat rate for a duration of 30 days. This is great because it keeps things simple. Everybody knows where they stand and you’re either in the game, or not. It’s nice where you do get to choose your own price, but that can be very nerve wracking at times as you try to put a value on an ad space, you don’t want to overprice or underprice and you’re left staring at an empty spot where you have to type your price in. Your price is worked out for you because they visit your site and review it and based on factors such as your pagerank, alexa score, and other factors, they assign you a value per link - of course, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to accept it … but it’s worth a look just to see what a pro values it at!
There are a choice of adverts you can choose to place on your website:
- Advertisers can place a link in the sidebar of your website. You can choose whether you’ll be offering that site-wide, or just on individual pages.
- Advertisers can buy a link right in the middle of your text, so their one-word link appears in your text.
- Just like most link selling services, you can choose to accept/decline an advert before it’s published… although this is pretty standard or you’d find some cheesy competitor trying to snaffle your hard-earned traffic for peanuts
- You can be paid by check, Paypal, Payoneer or a TLA Voucher. If you choose the voucher it means the money goes into your account with them for YOU to spend on advertising - AND - you get a bonus 15% if you do that, making it a great way to get free advertising!
And don’t forget that if you’re offering text link advertising on your site, you’re increasing your exposure as potential advertisers come and check you out. Some will be there to see if they want to advertise, but some will also spot what you’re offering and want to pop by and visit you as a potential customer!
