Did You Ping Google? Google Blog Search – How to Make Sure You’re In Their Results

If you’ve got a blog, then you’ll be wanting Google to know about it for their Google Blog Search – after all, Google’s probably going to feature quite highly on your traffic generators if you’re going to get vast amounts of free traffic.

Of course, as always, the best way to get noticed by Google Blog Search is to be linked to from other blogs. If Google finds a link to your blog while it’s trawling the Internet it’ll give it higher importance. But what if the sites linking to you aren’t known to Google? What if nobody links to you yet?

How annoying… you’ve put all this effort into creating this darned blog and there’s no way to shout to Google “Hey .. over here”. Well you can ping Google’s Blog Search – or, in English, add your blog to their listing.

Just go here to get added to Google Blog Search: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping.

Now you’re listed, they’ll get round to you as soon as they can.

In the meantime though, if you can find any way to get other blogs to link to you then that’d be better.

Getting Other Blogs to Link to You

  • If you have a mate, get them to link to you, but if their site isn’t the same subject as yours then it’s a link but not a high quality link, but hey – it’s a link.
  • Write and submit some articles to articles directories, with a link to your blog in the footer.
  • Write good and relevant comments on blogs like yours, most comments give you a space for your website url. Be aware though that most of these have a NOFOLLOW tag so you’ve wasted the effort if you’re just doing it for a link to your site.
  • Buy links on relevant websites.  There are a growing number of services where you can buy cheap links to webpages you choose.  Check out: Link Show Off and Ask 2 Link – both provide searchable directories of blogs you can buy a link from for as little as $1.

If you want to post comments on other blogs, you’ll see that’s a problem because it could take you hours to find a few that you could post on that didn’t have a NOFOLLOW tag  – if you could only find blogs in your chosen subject that allowed comments where the link you put in WAS followed by Google, that’d be great wouldn’t it … well, there are ways. I’ve tried some of them – very long-winded and unsatisfying. But, of course, somebody’s written some software that can instantly find them for you. All you need do is type in the subject and up come a list of specific blogs/threads for you to comment on. Genius.
