Top 4 Ways to Set and Forget Your Blog!
When you start a blog, you quickly realise that it takes a LOT more work than what you thought. Blogging is promoted as being quick and easy. “Just 10 minutes a day” …. and it can be, but if you’re like me you become quite obsessed with addins and Wordpress plugins! The whole thing can take over your life.
Then there’s fresh, unique content to write, from scratch. Yes, I really DO think all this content up and write it myself. I think the longest time it took me to write a single blog entry was about 6-7 hours last week. It wasn’t a particularly large blog entry, it just required quite a bit of research and thinking.
I find that sometimes I’d like to just jot down a single line, only that’s not really helpful to anybody is it! Or I waffle on forever, creating huge long blog postings. I sometimes wonder if they’ll ever be read. But the fact is, we all scan a website and pick out just what we’re interested in. I also appreciate that a lot of people might be fresh to earning money online, or being a homeworker. This might be the first time they’ve needed or wanted to work at home, so they might need a bit more explanation of the basics.
I sometimes think my head is going to explode with all the information that’s in it - and blogging, I find, is a great way to jot down all my random thoughts and information without any particular structure because the categories create the structure it needs. So for me blogging is a much better way of presenting information than a standard website.
But what if you don’t want to spend so long on your blog? How can you automate it? Well, below are my top tips to set and forget your blog!
- Allow people to comment on your blog. This is the easiest way you can keep your blog live and relevant. If you’ve got people commenting on your blog, then that’s less work for you to do to create changing and fresh, unique content.
- Once you’re got your Google Page Rank to a PR1 or higher, you can sign up with Host my Post and select articles to appear on your website, if you’re using Wordpress they provide a simple plug in to make this really quick, if you’ve got any other system you can simply copy and paste the articles. Some want you to post it exactly “as is”, whereas others will allow you to change any part of it so long as you leave their link in … and the beauty of this is that you’re paid for each article you place on your blog!
- The careful use of rss feeds can keep your content fresh without you lifting a finger. To place an rss link in your Wordpress blog, there are a selection of great rss Wordpress plugins you can download for free. I said careful use of rss feeds for a couple of reasons. You can buy software that says it will generate fresh content for your website, all they usually do is manage rss feeds for you, these aren’t very good and can look quite messy. There are also Wordpress plug ins that will do the same job, but, more importantly, if you’re running Google Adsense, then they might not view your blog to be relevant and it can cause problems with your account so for now I won’t tell you what to use or how to set it up, that’s for another day. My advice to you though is, take the time out to write your own fresh content, straight from the heart. Let your personality come through in all the postings, enabling people to feel a connection with you, that way you’ll build up regular readers and a good following!
- Run a competition on your site. It doesn’t have have big cash prizes! Then let people know about the competition. Enable those comments …. and away you go!
Well, I hope that gave you ideas! This posting was more to open up your eyes a little to making life a little easier, rather than a tutorial in how to achieve it! I run a number of websites using Wordpress and it can be a nightmare getting round to them all! This particular blog that you’re reading is a handy “collect it all together” blog where I can store my notes and thoughts and so that I can share them with people who are looking for this information.
I hope you’ve found something useful here that you can use.
