Freelance Working From Home
If you look at how people are managing to have a career or a business and still be a homeworker then you quickly realise that freelancing is very lucrative.
Everybody has a skill they can use to be a freelancer, and if you’re reading this and thinking “not me” then maybe you’ve just been looking on the wrong websites before!
What is a Freelancer?
A freelancer is just somebody who performs a small set of tasks for companies that need work doing but there’s not enough work for them to employe somebody. This work is often referred to as a project. Some freelance work is ongoing but a lot of it is one off jobs that just need to be done soonest.
Regular Work as a Freelancer
On day one as a freelancer you’ll be sitting there with no work and no clients and what you need to do is to get some work coming in. But long-term if you are constantly chasing work it might not be everybody’s idea of a great homeworking model. But for most people it doesn’t work like that. What you’ll find is that while some of the jobs you do are one-offs a lot of your initial clients will end up having ongoing work to be done. Having used you once they’ll come to you first the next time they want something doing! In fact, if you look at freelancer statistics, you’ll often find that many people have enough clients to work full-time after they’ve done only about a dozen small projects.
What Do I Do?
Freelance Jobs - Where Are They?
Ah, I wondered when you were going to ask that! So I’ve put together a regularly updated list of freelance jobs for you to scan through and also a list of all the best freelance websites you can join.
Will I Have to Pay?
Not always. While some freelancer sites do charge a membership fee, there are also many free sites. Of course the sites where you have to pay to be a member are most likely to have better quality and larger companies advertising paid freelance work on them, but there’s more than enough work to be gained from the free sites until you’re confident enough that your investment in membership will reap you great rewards.
How Do I Apply for Freelance Jobs?
This is the easy bit, you find one you fancy and there’s usually a link there to apply for it. You simply write a couple of sentences saying why you should be chosen to do the work and how much you’d charge.
How Do I Get Paid?
In this day and age, it’s usually by Paypal. Some freelancer sites even guarantee you will get paid by making the advertiser put the pay into an escrow site. Funds are then released once you’ve done the work. So it tends to be a much quicker, easier and more assured way of being paid to work from home. Most payments will be by Paypal and if you haven’t got a Paypal account yet then you should because it frees you up from wondering how to be paid and receiving payments. With a Paypal account the money just appears and you can transfer it to your bank account from there. A Paypal account is free.
